Overcoming Challenges

Hi, everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to send out another big thank you to all of my amazing donors who have supported Charlie Cares. Your generosity is making a huge difference, and I’m thrilled to share an update on our maize planting project in Bungoma, Kenya.

We’ve been working really hard on this project, but like any big endeavor, we’ve faced a few challenges along the way. Recently, Bungoma experienced an unusual amount of rain, which caused flooding in some of the fields. As you can imagine, this was a pretty scary situation because it threatened to destroy the crops we’ve worked so hard to plant.

But I’m so grateful to have Patrick Wesonga, our incredible partner in Bungoma, on our side. Patrick quickly organized the digging of channels to divert most of the excess rainwater. Thanks to his quick thinking and hard work, we were able to save many of our crops from being ruined.

Another challenge we faced was that the farmers didn’t have any money for fertilizer, which is super important for topdressing and increasing the maize yield. Without fertilizer, the crops wouldn’t reach their full potential. To help with this, I decided to send my birthday money, and my dad matched my contribution. While we couldn’t send a large amount, it was enough to buy some fertilizer and give the crops the boost they needed.

I’m happy to report that, despite these challenges, the crops are growing well! I’ve even included some pictures to show you the progress we’ve made. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, and it’s all thanks to your support. Your contributions have made all of this possible, and I truly can’t thank you enough.

Together, we’re making a real difference in the lives of farmers in Bungoma, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed. Every challenge we overcome brings us one step closer to a better future for these families, and I’m so proud to be on this journey with you.
